UniCredit Group activity in Europe (22 countries with a leading position in Central Eastern Europe markets) is strengthened by factors such as dimension, diversification and diffusion throughout the territory. Leveraging on these experiences, the Group has become particularly effective in finding and meeting emerging markets needs.

In this field, UniCredit pursues, amongst its commercial priority aims, a strategy meant to foster the internationalization of the small and medium enterprises, supporting investments, commercial exchange and knowledge in foreign countries, fostering local realities as a strategic factor for enterprise growth and the development of the national economies themselves.

In particular, important interventions have been launched in order to support small and medium enterprises, with the target of a more effective connection between economic operators and the countries where UniCredit Group is present.

The first initiative launched in the context of this program is "A way to Sicily".

The A way to Sicily project, promoted by Comitato Territoriale Sicilia in cooperation with Banco di Sicilia and UniCredit Corporate Banking, has been set up with the aim of facilitating the international promotion of Sicilian companies, with the objective of supporting the knowledge on "Made in Sicily" in new countries and markets.

A way to Sicily will take place on 26-27 November at Villa Igiea Hilton in Palermo. The event addresses Sicilian companies operating in the food production, wine and fruit and vegetable sectors, and represents an opportunity for Polish buyers and distributors.

All the Sicilian companies involved will have the opportunity to join workshops with qualified experts in legal, fiscal and financial issues and to take advantage of the assistance of UniCredit Group banks in Poland and in Italy, in order to better understand and deepen the Polish market's characteristics with a special focus on goods distribution.

In summary, each company involved will have the opportunity  to:

  • Establish a direct connection with potential business partners;
  • Have the consultancy of fiscal, legal and financial experts from UniCredit Group and from Italian institutional partners such as ICE and Informest;
  • Introduce its own products to potential business partners, even through the distribution of a dedicated booklet that will contain information about the companies involved and their products;
  • Became acquainted with the principal features of Polish markets.

The economic scenario:

The project promoted by UniCredit Group aims to develop a Sicilian strategic sector, the agricultural industry which provides 24% of the whole national production.
Southern Italian exports in the food sector amounts to 18% (4.3 bn EUR) of the total national quota.

Poland can be considered an interesting target for the export of Southern Italian goods in the food sector and, at the present time, accounts for 1.9% of the total exports of Southern Italy.
