International Volunteer Day at Bank Pekao
As every year, Bank Pekao celebrates International Volunteer Day. This holiday is an opportunity to summarize the volunteering activities of recent months and thank employees for their contribution and energy in helping others.
International Volunteer Day, which falls on December 5th, is traditionally a time for volunteer leaders at Bank Pekao to gather. Throughout the year, they have supported those who need it most with passion, knowledge, and determination. In addition to workshops and inspiring panel discussions, it was also an opportunity to summarize the initiatives implemented, thanks to which the charitable efforts of the bank's volunteers have reached many people across Poland.
"Employee volunteering at Bank Pekao is the practical implementation of our ESG commitments. Thanks to the commitment of employees, the bank not only supports those in need but also builds a financially conscious society. The actions undertaken by our employees are not just about helping – they are about consciously building the future and proving that business can and should actively participate in solving social challenges" emphasizes Aneta Szymańska, Director of the Organizational Culture Office at Bank Pekao S.A.
The employee volunteering program has been operating at Bank Pekao since 2018. For years, the bank has been building an environment in which employee social engagement is appreciated and supported, and where pro-social activities align with the company's strategic goals. This is an important element of the bank's organizational culture, supporting the implementation of its ESG strategy.
Pekao's employee volunteering strategy is an integral part of its ESG goals, which includes educational projects for children, youth, and seniors, cybersecurity workshops, first aid training, campaigns supporting children from orphanages, and environmental initiatives.
This year, nearly 1,500 people participated in campaigns organized by the Pekao Volunteer Office and the "We Are Close" grant competition, devoting a total of over 8,000 hours to helping those in need. Employee volunteering activities focused primarily on financial education.
As part of the "Education for the Bank!" project, Pekao employees at bank branches across Poland conducted educational meetings for children and young people, aimed at increasing their financial awareness.
The bank also collaborated with the Warsaw Institute of Banking, implementing projects such as "The Adventures of Entrepreneurial Jack," inspired by Janusz Korczak's novel "The Bankruptcy of Little Jack," which was included on the list of supplementary readings for primary schools.
As part of the BAKCYL program, bank volunteers conducted thematic classes for young people in schools on banking. One of these was an international online lesson held on September 30th, a series of seven unique lessons straight from the Polish Pavilion at the Expo in Osaka. Over 51,000 students and teachers participated in the online lessons from Expo 2025 Osaka. Students and teachers from Poland and Polish diaspora schools around the world participated in the meetings.
